What God Hates
Proverbs 6:16-19New International Version (NIV)
16 There are six things the Lord hates, seven that are detestable to him: 17 haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, 18 a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are quick to rush into evil, 19 a false witness who pours out lies and a person who stirs up conflict in the community.
We are going to go through this one thing at a time. I hope we have a little more understanding about what God hates, and keep from doing that.
Number 1.) Haughty Eyes The NKJV refers to this as a “proud look” I guess we need to find out what the wod haughty really means. According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary describes this as…
Having or showing an attitude of superiority and contempt for people or things to perceived to be inferior
The Bible warns us against the offence on several different occasions. In fact later in Proverbs Solomon writes this
Haughty eyes and a proud heart— the unplowed field of the wicked—produce sin. 21:4
David writes in Psalms 101:5
...whoever has haughty eyes and a proud heart, I will not tolerate.
That is some very strong word used there ‘...I will not tolerate.’
Wow, not really what you want to hear from God.

Anyone ever had a boss like that. Nothing you do is right or up to his standards. Instead being haughty God has called us to be meek in Matthew 5
:5 Blessed are the meek, For they shall inherit the earth
Not the people who think they deserve it.
Number 2.) a lying tongue,
Between Psalms and Proverbs there are 6 occasions that the writer condemns a lying tongue.
Psalm 109:2 For the mouth of the wicked and the mouth of the deceitful Have opened against me; They have spoken against me with a lying tongue
Psalm 120:2 Deliver my soul, O Lord, from lying lips And from a deceitful tongue
Proverbs 12:19 The truthful lip shall be established forever, But a lying tongue is but for a moment.
Proverbs 21:6 Getting treasures by a lying tongue Is the fleeting fantasy of those who seek death.
Proverbs 26:28 A lying tongue hates those who are crushed by it, And a flattering mouth works ruin.
We have to be careful what we say. Jesus said in one of his parables the He was the way, the TRUTH and the life. We are Christians therefore we represent Christ and His life. We are supposed to follow in His footsteps and we can’t do that being a liar. Revelation 21:8 says that all liars shall take their place in the lake of fire. I don’t know about you but that sounds hot. I don’t do good in hot weather. We have all heard honesty is the best policy. But people get so offended by the truth. Still better to tell the truth and not offend God than not offend somebody. Give people the whole truth and quit sugar coating it

Number 3.) hands that shed innocent blood,
This should be self explanatory. Murderers. There are so many names for this now. -Manslaughter -Murder -Homicide -Genocide There is one that I am going to name truthfully, it is going to offend some people. Here it goes. -Abortion
Yes, abortion is the shedding of innocent blood. You know God gave us a list of things we aren’t supposed to do. They are called the 10 Commandments You shall not kill.
Whether it is with a rock (Cain), guns, bows, etc. or a vacuum and needle.

Number 4.) a heart that devises wicked schemes
Someone that plots against someone. What does it means to plot? a secret plan for accomplishing evil or unlawful ends.
Saul plotted against David on numerous occasions. Haman plotted against Mordecai. All of those occasions God met them with detrimental action. Haman ended up hanging on the gallow he built for Mordecai.

Number 5.) feet that are quick to rush into evil,
The model prayer says for us to pray ‘lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil.’ Yet, all too often we see a political discussion or right now it is football season and we jump into the discussion. Now, I am not saying either of these are bad. But how we act in those situations can be evil. How do we react in situations can be pure evil. When we see everything going on the world today all the pure, unadulterated evil we have the tendency to go running into it without abandon. Do we not have any discernment when it comes to things like this? With the all of the movies, and TV shows, like Lucifer, are causing Christians to become desensitized to Evil. Also, like Charmed, Supernatural, Etc. We need to wake and stop running into evil.

Number 6.) a false witness who pours out lies
False witness to tell a lie to get someone in trouble. We are good at this. We start as children. “I didn’t do it my brother/sister did.” We know we have all said this a time or two in our life. Another way to describe this is perjury. We purjor on so many occasions. We need to quit perjuring not only against each other but against ourselves. We bear false witness about us to us more than we do others. How many times do we say we aren’t good enough? God says you are good enough. So, God hates it people talk about His children even His children.

Number 7.) a person who stirs up conflict in the community.
This is a biggie. This encompasses so many different things. You remember earlier when I mention sports and politics? We get so heated, passionate, Christians call it Righteously Indignant. We throw out words that really embarrass ourselves. We as Christians have to hold ourselves to a higher standard. We are set apart for a reason. Always remember this…
1 Peter 2:9 But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light;
So, be a Light in a WORLD of Darkness, don’t get caught up in arguments over nothing.
